Why are Zendo’s Pathfinder files 3% while some others are 2%?

By Dr. Barry H. Korzen

As with any instrument its effectiveness is based on a combination of flute design and taper. Hand stainless steel files have a 2% taper and therefore the natural progression for the next instrument would be a 3% taper. Ultimately we want to instrument the canal to a minimum 4% taper therefore combining a 3% taper with an effective flute design speeds up the entire instrumentation process. Following glide path preparation the next step is confirming the actual working length with a size 15 stainless steel hand file, either electronically or radiographically. Having created the glide path with a 3% taper will allow the stainless steel file to quickly slip into place.
