Case Studies: Latest

Of Ancient Pelicans and the Golden Age

By Dr Ken Serota| Posted March 27, 2013

The legacy concepts of endodontics are undergoing radical revision. Almost a hundred years ago, Hess and others detailed the anatomy of the root canal systems of all morphotypes of teeth. We wandered in the desert of access and instrument design, disinfection adjuncts and obturation materials for those hundred years; however, with the emergence of micro CT imaging and cone beam tomography, the time had come to realize that it truly was the tooth that dictates the manner in which it was to be shaped and the legacy “look” that had been accepted for so long had to be seriously questioned.
