The impetus for the development of The Endo Academy is to create a resource for science, clinical concepts and the facility to query experts in the field as to any and all aspects of the endodontic treatment spectrum. To that end we have created a team of advisors comprised of both endodontists and generalists. We welcome your visits, your contribution and your understanding of the axiom, “share and care”.
Dr. Dagna is Professor of Endodontics at the University of Pavia, Italy. He is the author of approximately 100 publications in international journals, has authored text books and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. He practices in Alessandria, Italy. Dr. Dagna treated this case using the One Shape system (MicroMega, France) which is sold in North America as The ZONE 2.0 (Zendo-Online.com)
If canal constrictions prevent stainless steel hand files from easily reaching the Estimated Working Length (EWL), Zendo’s continuous rotation NiTi SOLO Pathfinder file has been specifically designed for effective glide path preparation.
In the May 2015 issue of the Journal of Endodontics Nekkoofar et al reported on a randomized clinical trial that studied postoperative pain following endodontic instrumentation comparing a reciprocating system (Wave One) and a system that utilizes full rotation (ProTaper).
As with any instrument its effectiveness is based on a combination of flute design and taper. Hand stainless steel files have a 2% taper and therefore the natural progression for the next instrument would be a 3% taper. Ultimately we want to instrument the canal to a minimum 4% taper therefore combining a 3% taper with an effective flute design speeds up the entire instrumentation process.View the Answers or Ask a Question
